Description

 

Busy, high capacity cheese counter seeks fun, hardworking lover of cheese.  
We are hiring for a receiver/stocker. As part of your training, you will work counter shifts (production and customer service) for at least 2 months before starting your receiving shifts. Usually receiver/stockers keep one counter shift. 
We are a worker cooperative grocery store. Must like: taking initiative, giving and receiving constructive feedback and washing hands constantly. Top notch communication skills required.

 

CHEESE DEPARTMENT JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position: Stocker/Receiver

 

General Description: Check in deliveries, stock products in backstock and on shelves, calculates price changes, front shelves, help cheese cutters prioritize and find cheese.

 

Hours: Receiving shifts are 5-8 hours.

 

Desired Experience: Experience in food service or coops would be good but not 100% required. Experience with cheese would be double-plus good. Multilingualism not necessary, but certainly would be appreciated.

 

Job Specifications:

Essential functions:

  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision

  • Work well in a small team with lots of mutual oversight

  • Able to work standing for 8-hour shifts, excluding break time

  • Able to perform the repetitive motions necessary for near-constant wrapping, sealing, and labeling

  • Able to speak English proficiently and read English well enough to accurately identify cheeses

  • Able to do enough basic math to use margins to calculate pricing

  • Able to taste and describe cheese

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly

  • Work in a refrigerator

  • Work in a cooperative environment

  • Work well with others in a small and crowded space

  • Maintain a sanitary workspace

  • Participate in the improvement of the department by attending meetings, subbing, volunteering for tasks, etc.

  • Participate in counting inventory

  • Have or be willing to gain an extensive knowledge of cheese including where it’s from, how it’s made, how it tastes, and how it’s used

  • Give and receive constructive criticism

  • Communicate with co-workers about relevant work-related subjects

  • Communicate as necessary with co-workers, vendors, and delivery people

  • Be dependable; show up for all scheduled shifts and meetings in a timely manner, and complete tasks

 

Other Responsibilities & Qualifications:

  • Participate in the improvement of the entire store by attending meetings, running for committees, and reading minutes

Starting pay $22.90.
